Don Plummer serves as the Media Relations and Community Engagement Liaison for the Georgia Public Defender Council (GPDC), where he leads strategic communications, media relations, public education, and storytelling initiatives that strengthen public understanding of Georgia’s public defense system.
Before joining GPDC, Don spent more than three decades as an award-winning journalist, including 14 years as a reporter for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, where he covered crime, courts, public safety, and major breaking news across Georgia. His career has also included leadership roles in public information and communications for the Fulton County Superior Court, the Georgia Administrative Office of the Courts, nonprofit organizations, and the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta.
A U.S. Navy veteran, Don combines the instincts of a reporter with the perspective of a public servant, helping legal professionals communicate clearly, accurately, and effectively with the public, policymakers, and the news media. His work focuses on building trust through transparency, professionalism, and compelling storytelling.
At the 2026 GPDC Summer Conference, Don will present “You Are the Face of Public Defense,” a practical session exploring how every interaction—whether with clients, families, court personnel, legislators, community members, or the media—shapes public confidence in Georgia’s public defense system.
