The Georgia Public Defender Council is pleased to announce that registration is now open for the 2026 Summer Public Defense Conference, taking place July 20–22, 2026, at the University of Georgia School of Law in Athens.
This year, we return to the theme of Defender University, a concept that reflects our shared commitment to continuous learning, professional growth, and excellence in public defense. Like any great university, Defender U is a place where dedicated advocates come together to exchange ideas, sharpen their skills, and learn from one another.
Throughout the week, participants will engage in dynamic training sessions, thought-provoking discussions, and practical workshops led by experienced defenders, legal experts, and policy leaders from across Georgia and beyond. Sessions will explore emerging legal issues, innovative advocacy strategies, trial skills, and leadership development — all designed to strengthen our ability to serve clients and communities.
Beyond the classroom, the conference provides valuable opportunities to reconnect with colleagues, build new professional relationships, and share the collective wisdom of Georgia’s public defense community.
Welcome back to Defender University — class is in session.
